Instant Pot French Toast Ingredients
- 4 cups of French bread, cut into bite-size pieces and dried overnight
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- cup sugar
- cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
NUTS: You can also add pecans or walnuts to this dish if youd like.
ORANGES: Add orange zest to the batter for a delicious, irresistible flavor.
RAISINS: Now, Ill be honest, I dont personally love raisins BUT some folks do and this is definitely a recipe you can add them to!
Prepping the Bread
French toast is definitely best when made with drier, stale bread.
I prefer using French bread for this recipe, as I think it holds up the best while cooking.
PRO TIP: Some folks love sourdough, brioche, or challah so those are some options if youd like to try them as well!
To prepare the bread, cut the loaf into slices and then cut into bite-size pieces.
You can leave the bread pieces out on the counter on a baking sheet the night before making this dish.
To make it faster, you can also place the cubes on a baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Once your bread has dried you could then place it in the egg/milk mixture and let it sit in the fridge overnight if you wanted, then dump into the pan the next morning!
How to Make Instant Pot French Toast
STEP ONE: Select an ovenproof dish that fits inside your Instant Pot. Spray the bottom and sides of the dish with nonstick baking spray. You can use parchment paper in the bottom too for easy release.
PRO TIP: You can use the special pan made for Instant Pot if you have it.
STEP TWO: In a large bowl whisk the eggs and then add the milk, vanilla, regular sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
STEP THREE: Add the dried bread pieces and push them down gently so that all the bread pieces are covered with the liquid. Let them soak for about 10 minutes. Stirring occasionally to make sure every piece of bread gets into the milk mixture.
STEP FOUR: Pour the mixture into your prepared dish. Cover the dish really well with foil. I put a piece over the top and then also placed the dish on a piece of foil and brought the edges up around it. This helps seal out the moisture while it is steaming.
STEP FIVE:Place your trivet that came with the Instant Pot in the bottom of the pot and pour 1 cup of water into the pot.Place your baking dish on top of the trivet.

STEP SEVEN: When the timer goes off cover the vent with a towel and quick release the steam.
STEP EIGHT: Remove the dish carefully as it will be hot and remove the foil from the dish draining off any excess moisture on the foil.
STEP NINE: Let the dish sit for 10 minutes before serving.
What to Serve with Instant Pot French Toast
SWEETS: Our family loves melted butter and maple syrup poured on top.
FRUIT: Fresh fruit like blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or bananas are favorites for us.
SAUCE: You could also use a fruit sauce topping or fruit-based syrup for this.
PEANUT BUTTER: My boys also love it when I melt creamy peanut butter, or Nutella and drizzle it on top!
CHOCOLATE: Sprinkle chocolate chips across the top before serving, or melt them in the microwave and drizzle over the top.
CREAM: Fresh dollops of whipped cream are another favorite.
SUGAR:A dash of powdered sugar is a classic topping that is also delicious on this Instant Pot French toast.
ICING: You could also make a homemade icing with milk and powdered sugar to drizzle on top, like a cinnamon roll. Yum!
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days and then reheated in the oven or in the microwave.
