Gluten Free Apple Pie With Crumb Topping

Gluten Free Apple Pie With Crumb Topping

Pies are my absolute favorite dessert. They come in many different flavors and varieties. Every summer my mom and I spend most of our time baking blueberry pies with fresh blueberries from our family-owned blueberry farm. Every fall, my mom purchases her favorite Winesap apples in bulk from a nearby local produce stand and we bake many apple pies and apple crisps each week. Because I am gluten free, I have had to miss out on enjoying my favorite dessert while my family and friends raved about how amazing the blueberry and apple pies were. Finally, this past summer, I was able to find a gluten free pie crust and I immediately got started working on a recipe. This apple pie recipe certainly was worth the wait. After taking my first bite into this pie, I knew that there was no going back to any other combination of ingredients. This was the winner recipe. I hope you love it just as much as I do!

Ingredients

Pie Crust:

1 9 in. Already prepared gluten free pie crust

Pie Filling:

6 c. Winesap apple slices

1/8 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 tbsp. Gluten-free flour

1/2 c. Pure cane sugar

1 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

Pie Topping:

1/2 c. Walnuts

1/2 c. Pecans

1/4 c. Melted butter

1/3 c. Pure cane sugar

1 tbsp. Gluten free flour

3/4 tsp. Cinnamon

1/8 tsp. Salt

Directions

Step 1 Preheat oven to 425 degrees

Step 2 Take out pie crust and let thaw to room temperature. If frozen, defrost for 30 minutes.

Step 3 Peel and slice apples. (to make it easier, I used an apple peeler then cut the de-cored apple into 4’s.)

Step 4 In a large bowl, combine all pie filling ingredients.

Step 5 In a small bowl, combine all the pie topping ingredients.

Step 6 Put prepared apple pie filling into thawed pie crust. Top apples with walnut and pecan pie mixture.

Step 7 Bake apple pie on middle rack in the oven (Make sure to put a baking sheet on the rack below apple pie to avoid any possible mess). Bake for 45-60 mins or until apples bubble. Check pie at 30 mins to make sure crust is not burning. If crust looks like it is starting to burn, cover with tinfoil for the remaining time.

Step 8 Take pie out of oven, place it on a cooling rack, and let cool for 30 minutes.

Step 9 Serve and enjoy!

Thank you for checking out my recipe! Give it a try and comment what you think :).
