Best Apples for Apple Crisp

I love Granny Smith apples for this recipe the best. You can also use Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, Braeburn, or Cortland.

Any apple that is sturdy and slightly tart will work great!

Some folks like to leave the peel on and thats totally fine if its your preference! I like to peel mine.

If you leave the skin on, be sure to wash well before starting.

PRO TIP: Your apples should always be room temperature before starting!

How to Make Apple Crisp

START: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a deep 88 dish or 117 by spraying with nonstick spray or butter the dish.

STEP ONE: In a large bowl mix the apples, flour, sugars, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss to combine until all apples are covered with flour. Transfer to prepared dish. The apples will be piled high but it is okay because they shrink a bit as they cook.

STEP TWO: In a medium bowl add brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks or your hands to combine and crumble the mixture until it is pea-sized and crumbly.

STEP THREE: Add apple mixture to an 88 dish that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Spread topping over the apples and gently pat it down.

PRO TIP: You could also make this in cast-iron skillets.
