I just adore how this sweet baby chick turned out. Quite proud of the smooth slope in his back!
The momma bird uses the same body base and beak as the chick, but has the following additional parts: her red crown, green tail, and wings. She can actually pass as a rooster too!
Instructions for crocheting a nest is available in the written PDF pattern. It makes for a lovely home for your baby chick and mama hen!

Customizations
You can use any yarn fiber, from cotton to chenille velvet, to create different textures…or any weight to create different sizes! This bird doll looks great in all different yarn colors, including solids, ombre, self-striping, and variegated yarn. Customization is easy by adding crocheted appliques, bows, beads, buttons, facial features, and more.
Yarn
To make your chickens exactly like mine, try going with some chunky chenille velvet yarn and a large (5mm) hook. I used Hobbii's Baby Snuggle Yarn and Honey Bunny Yarn. They're very similar in weight and feel, and are perfect for a soft and squishy amigurumi. For more information about the Baby Snuggle Yarn, feel free to check out my Baby Snuggle Yarn Review!
You can also use thinner yarn, such as medium worsted weight or DK yarn, and pair it with a smaller hook. This will give you a tinier, keychain-sized amigurumi!
